Desert
Rose Golf Course
By Ron Reece, The Internet Golf Guy
Not every course in Las Vegas breaks the bank, and Desert
Rose Golf Club is the one to play for those who want to experience
a good round of Vegas golf without the high price tag associated with
the premium courses. Designed in 1962 by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson, Desert
Rose offers a friendly, mature layout that players of all abilities will
enjoy.
The course features 6,511 yards of wide fairways with little water or
sand hazards, and virtually no out-of-bounds areas. Typically reserved
for the beginner or the young player just starting out, this American
Golf managed facility will be a nice fit to offset the price of a large
golf package, or the perfect course for that first round of golf after
the winter layoff.
The greens at Desert Rose are rather standard, offering few undulations
and surprises. On approach shots, go "pin-seeking" as this course is mature
and the greens are quite receptive. Most holes do have bunkering around
the greens that can cause some problems, but overall the player can really
attempt to take it low.
