Las
Vegas Golf Club
By Ron Reece, The Internet Golf Guy
Not all tracks in the valley are resort courses with resort fees. Yes,
the Las Vegas Golf Club is the last of a dying breed in Southern Nevada;
that of a municipal. It offers 18 holes and cheap beer, which is a necessity
when playing this particular course. If you are in Vegas for a bachelor
party and want to get hammered while playing, or have never played the
game and would like to give it a try -- you have chosen the right path
with this one.
Designed by William Bell in 1938, the course is quite obviously mature and features lots of grass and big 'ol trees. In fact, there is grass everywhere you look. As Bobby Jones would say, "just knock the hell out of it; it will come down (on green stuff) somewhere."
The fairways are long and wide on this traditional style course, and most run adjacent to each other. With a slope of only 117 and yardage measuring 6,631 from the back tees, one can see that it is easier than many in Las Vegas, which makes it the right idea for beginners and young kids who are just learning the game.
The landscape around the entire facility is flat, which is reflected in the shaping of the greens. Very few undulations will interfere with your line while putting, and when in good shape, the ball tends to roll pretty true.
Granted, Las Vegas Golf Club is far from being the best course in town, but it does fit well for those who want to play a round, save some cash, and enjoy the weather.
