The Revere at AnthemThe Revere at Anthem

By Ron Reece, The Internet Golf Guy

The Revere Golf Club is quite simply one of the best facilities you can play in Las Vegas. Featuring two, Troon Golf managed golf courses in the Southeast corner of the Valley, The Revere continues to be a "fan favorite" for locals and tourists alike. But don't take our word for it- this Billy Casper/Greg Nash design was listed by Golf Magazine as a "Top New Course You Can Play" in 1999, and still receives rave reviews from top publications.

Troon Golf promises a "Revolutionary Golf Experience" at the Revere and delivers in dramatic fashion with The Lexington (original course) and the new Concord (opened in 2002). Yes, even the practice area is labeled "The Battlefield." One thing is definite: You must be prepared to "go to war" to play well at this facility. The challenge comes from elevated tee-boxes that provide players with tremendous views of the valley- maybe the best in town- along with high-rising canyon walls and natural desert washes that are exclusive to this section of the valley.

The Lexington course is actually located in a canyon, and features lush fairways that are lined on all sides by rugged desert terrain. Although water is not a major factor on this course, you will be thankful as you manage your way around this winding track that demands accuracy and length. The course measures 7,143 yards with a slope of 139 and is intimidating. It is a wonderful experience for all players, and arguably the best in town for the better player who will appreciate the intricacies.

The greens on the Lexington are as incredible (and difficult) as the rest of the course. Most feature undulations, although not generally severe, and slopes that will require a good bit of concentration to avoid those dreaded three-putts. They are always in good shape and fast- so take it easy and bear down.

If you choose to play the Concord Course, you are in for a treat equal to that of its' sister course. This golf course is typically four to five strokes easier than Lexington, but has many similar features in the elevation changes and rugged desert landscape. The fairways are just as tight, however most run adjacent to each other (unlike Lexington); which will allow for a few mistakes off the tee-box. Similar in length (7,043) and slope (132) it is not for the faint of heart, but will be a better choice for beginners or intermediate players who wish to experience a fantastic round of golf.

The Concord is still relatively new, and this is reflected in the "softness" on the greens. They are not as receptive as those on the Lexington nor do they roll as true (yet), so you might want to let the ball run up on approach shots rather than firing at the pin. However, once on the putting surface you will notice that the undulations are less severe and the speed is consistent all the way around the course.

Rates are The Revere are higher than most, but with green fees under $200 even on the weekends we feel that it is the best "bang for the buck" for a premier course in Las Vegas. Both courses have made our "must play" list, and after experiencing golf at this facility we are confident it will make your list, too.
