Wildhorse
Golf Club
By Ron Reece, The Internet Golf Guy
Once considered a local favorite, and a former stop on the PGA Tour, the Wildhorse Golf Club still offers the beginning to intermediate player an enjoyable round of golf at a comfortable price.
This golf course was built in the early 1960s and received a face-lift from Hubert Green and Robert Cupp in 1992. Formerly known as the Showboat Golf Club, the venue has been the site of several PGA and local events that, at the time, made the course a "must play" in Las Vegas.
Wildhorse is a very traditional layout with long, wide fairways and substantial water features. The terrain is relatively flat and, while not a difficult course to play, there are some holes on the front nine that can cause the player a headache or two. Hole No. 5 is a par-3 that measures 252 yards from the championship tees; which makes it one of the longer par-3s in the city.
The greens at Wildhorse are also very traditional, with a relatively flat putting surface that has few undulations or severe slopes. For the player who is capable of reaching the greens in regulation, this will provide many birdie opportunities and should result in a good score.
Rates at Wildhorse are typically well under $100 even on the weekends, which
as you know have gone the way of the 99-cent buffet in Las Vegas.
When the course is in good shape, we feel that Wildhorse provides
a good golf experience and a casual environment that is player friendly
and fun to play.
